Palette study · temporary · tonal register 02
The same palette family as ColorTest, explored in a more muted, material register — printed inks and dyed uncoated paper rather than digital UI color. Muted, not muddy. Directly comparable with /ColorTest.
00 · Two registers
The quiet register carries the seriousness and material quality. The graphic register provides emphasis and authority. The system never uses every color at equal intensity.
01 · Individual studies
Paper White · ground
Unchanged — the paper every ink sits on.
Identical to ColorTest. The muted register is measured against this same field.
Book Blue · graphic
Chalkier, more material — still confident, clearly blue.
The graphic register's primary. Carries strong reversed typography without going corporate.
Quiet Blue · foundational
Material and restrained — the seriousness of the system.
Treated as a true foundational color, not an intermediate. Shown at scale to judge properly.
Ice Blue · field
Light atmospheric field with a touch of material softness.
Still visibly cooler than paper. Not grayed until it disappears.
Pink · quiet
Pale pink book cloth — unmistakably pink, not mauve.
A subtle shift from ColorTest: more faded paper, less digital pastel.
Yellow · quiet
Fresh enough to contrast — not sunny, not mustard.
A quieter yellow register, still clearly yellow. Not cream, not ochre.
Warm Red · graphic
Kept strong — slightly more printed ink, not muted away.
One of the stronger inks. Gives the quieter palette graphic strength.
Warm Red · reversed
Paper white reverses cleanly where red occupies more space.
Same red, reversed type — for larger red moments.
02 · Relationships
Blue carries greater presence than red. Red is punctuation. Quiet Blue is allowed to lead in the quiet register.
03 · Website scale
Quiet Blue · foundational field
Quiet Blue at scale reads as material and editorial — not corporate gray-blue, not institutional.
Book Blue · graphic field
The graphic register's primary — printed and chalkier, still confident.
From a client
“We shipped with confidence. The review caught three things we would have missed.”

Yellow interruption
A smaller muted-yellow block against paper — a graphic note, not a harvest field.
Red punctuation
04 · A/B values
Exactly how much each color changed. The shifts are intentionally subtle.
05 · Candidate values
This is an experiment. /ColorTest is preserved unchanged. No candidate here has been propagated to any page, token, or shared component. The two pages will be compared visually before any decision.
