Second Pair of Eyes — App Overview

A living document covering the value proposition, product catalog, monitoring system, and platform architecture.

The core idea

Value Proposition

Every team ships work they're too close to judge fairly. Second Pair of Eyes gives founders, designers, marketers, and product teams an honest, independent professional assessment before their customers see the result — without the overhead, cost, or timeline of a full agency engagement.

The platform pairs AI-prepared baseline analysis with vetted professional reviewers who exercise real judgment. AI does the crawl, capture, and first-pass observation; a human professional validates, discards false positives, applies context, prioritizes, and signs off. The client receives one cohesive expert report — not a raw AI dump, and not a vague agency deck.

Three principles anchor the brand:

  • An independent perspective — you've stared at your own work too long to see it clearly.
  • Fast, not rushed — 24 to 72 hours, thorough enough to be useful.
  • Honest, not harsh — what's wrong, why it matters, and how to fix it. No vague notes, no padding.

The model is one-time reviews (no subscriptions required to get a review) plus an optional ongoing Watchers monitoring layer for teams who want continuous surveillance of their live sites.

The workflow

How a Review Works

  1. Smart Intake — the client describes what they need reviewed in plain language. AI analyzes the request, infers the review type, extracts field-level provenance (observed vs. inferred), and surfaces follow-up questions. The client can also browse the catalog or use the Diagnosis tool directly.
  2. Checkout — one-time Stripe Checkout. Coupons and bundles are supported. No subscription required.
  3. Order Fulfillment — after payment, the client provides materials (URL, files, or text) for each review in the order.
  4. AI Preparation — the analysis framework runs automated modules (crawl, screenshots, accessibility scan, hierarchy analysis, etc.) and produces a draft observation set.
  5. Expert Matching — the matching engine pairs the submission to a reviewer (or panel) using the Talent Matrix: professional depth, current practice, specialist expertise, industry experience, and expertise boundaries.
  6. Professional Review — the reviewer validates findings, discards false positives, adds context, prioritizes, and writes the final report with annotated examples.
  7. Quality Check (optional) — a Review Lead performs a second-pair-of-eyes quality check on important assessments before delivery.
  8. Delivery — the client receives a structured report with executive summary, prioritized findings, recommendations, a Review Passport (expertise applied, method, quality check status), and next steps. Recheck and clarification flows are available post-delivery.

Review Catalog

The catalog is the canonical source of truth (defined in reviewCatalog.js). Admin can override commerce fields (price, turnaround, active/featured) via the ReviewProduct entity without touching code. Legacy slugs are aliased to canonical slugs for backward compatibility.

15 watcher types

Watchers — Continuous Monitoring

Watchers are the ongoing monitoring layer. After a one-time review, teams can subscribe to continuous surveillance of their live sites. Each watcher runs on a daily, weekly, or manual cadence and produces a health score, status, findings with evidence provenance, and recommended next steps. Scan history is preserved per watcher, and combined PDF reports can be generated on demand.

The free scan (no account required) runs all 15 watchers once and produces a snapshot. Guests can claim their scan after authenticating, migrating the data to their permanent account.

Managed professional network

The Reviewer Network

Reviewers are vetted professionals — product designers, UX specialists, brand strategists, creative directors, writers, content strategists, conversion specialists, marketers, front-end developers, accessibility professionals, QA specialists, and product managers.

Each reviewer has a Talent Matrix capturing:

  • Professional depth (seniority, responsibility, complexity, leadership)
  • Current practice (actively practicing, recent work, verification)
  • Specialist expertise (area, proficiency, verification status)
  • Industry experience (industry, depth)
  • Technical fluency (tools, platforms, standards)
  • Contemporary knowledge (current practices, tools, standards, platforms)
  • Evaluation ability and communication assessment
  • Expertise boundaries (qualified to evaluate, can comment on, should not match, requires specialist)

Progression: Reviewer → Featured Reviewer → Senior Reviewer → Review Lead. Senior Reviewers can perform quality checks; Review Leads can approve or return reviews. The network learns from completed work via demonstrated specialties and strength signals.

Reviewers are compensated per completed review with fixed payments shown before acceptance. Stripe Connect Express handles payouts. Reviewers can also opt into being hired for follow-on client work.
